Events & Activities - 171st New York State Agriculture Society meeting - January 9, 2003

 

 

Serving the changing needs of New York's food and agricultural industries since 1832, The NYS Agricultural Society continued that mission with their annual meeting at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool. Keynote speaker, New York Times science columnist, Jane Brody complimented the food producers for their quality products saying it's not food that causes nutritional and weight problems in America, but the choices made by the people consuming that food. Panel discussions covered developments in biotechnology and envisioning agriculture's future.


Senate Agriculture Chairwoman Senator Nancy Larraine Hoffmann and NYS Agriculture & Markets Commissioner Nathan Rudgers (r) congratulated Joe Peck and his wife, Pat, on completing two years' service as President of the NYS Agricultural Society in January.

Repeat champions! For the second year in a row, the Medina Chapter of the FFA is honored as New York State's Outstanding FFA Chapter. (l-r) Senator Hoffmann, Josh Miller from the Schoharie Chapter who is the State FFA President, Medina Chapter President Jennifer Daggs, Parlimentarian Ashley Schaal, Secretary Stephanie Boyle, Student Advisor Carly Wells, Dr. Susan Henry, Dean of Cornell University's School of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and NYS Ag Commissioner Nathan Rudgers.
