Events & Activities - Governor Pataki, Senator Hoffmann announce new jobs in Rome - October 31, 2002

Governor George E. Pataki, Senator Hoffmann and U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today announced that a national defense industry company will create 505 new, good-paying jobs at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome. Scienx, a subsidiary of the Orasee Corporation, will invest $17.6 million to locate its production and R & D operations inside the business park. The new defense-related jobs pay an average salary of $58,975.

The Governor and Senator were joined by company officials, Congressman Sherwood Boehlert, Senator Raymond A. Meier, Senator Nancy Larraine Hoffmann, Assemblywoman RoAnn M. Destito, Oneida County Executive Ralph Eannace and Rome Mayor Joseph Griffo.

Senator Hoffmann said, "This is an important new payroll that will have a significant impact on the Rome economy. The creation of 500 good paying jobs will help everything from retail sales to real estate. The word is out that Rome is a wonderful place in which to locate a business."

The technologies produced by Scienx are applicable to tamper-proof security identification systems, medical imaging, graphic arts and remote (satellite) imaging technologies. The company was attracted to invest at Griffiss in the Rome because of the area's ties to Rome Lab.
