Senator Hoffmann provided a little Christmas spirit to the women at the Chadwick Residence by making a beef donation to the home.
Responding to local concerns about the U.S. Department of Agriculture announcement regarding the mad cow disease discovery in the State of Washington, Senator Hoffmann said, "Consumers should be reassured that there is no health risk involved with eating beef".
Senator Hoffmann also said, "It's important to remember all the safeguards already in place to make sure our food is safe. It is because of those safeguards, careful inspections and testing, that this case was discovered. The USDA has also acted very quickly to notify the public, quarantine the Washington State farm where the cow came from, and track down any raw beef that may have been exposed to the suspected case of BSE". "I'm proud to help carry on an 18 year tradition of the New York Cattlewomen. Cattlewomen of New York State have donated hundreds of pounds of beef again this year to women and children in domestic violence shelters and rape crisis centers across the State, " said Senator Hoffmann, a beef producer.

Reporters from WIXT Channel 9, WTVH Channel 5 and WSYR Radio talked with Senator Hoffmann and Judith Arthur-Brothers, the Executive Director of Chadwick residence.
"We are very pleased to accept this donation of naturally raised local beef. It allows us to supplement the available food for the residents and beef is not something easily accesible for the women and children living here right now, so this is a special treat," said Executive Director Judith Arthur-Brothers.
