Senator Nancy Larraine Hoffmann participated in the opening ceremonies for the new Skyline Lodge at Highland Forest in Fabius, on Thursday, December 18. Onondaga County Parks' newest multi-use facility is an Adirondack-style building with a spectacular view of the valley to the north. The 10,000 square foot building features a large fireplace, windows the length of the north and east walls, covered decks and outdoor seating areas, and Adirondack style chairs. Historical memorabilia are featured in the Arts & Crafts style interior.
“Highland Forest is an outdoor enthusiast’s treasure, right here in Fabius, said Hoffmann.
“I am also pleased that a local organization, Orchard Vali, will be the caterer and concessionaire on weekends, holidays and school breaks, added the Senator.
The Lodge will house the cross-country ski and snowshoe rental shop and the park offices.
Hoffmann noted that the majority of the $2.5 million project was funded through timber harvest at Highland Forest, an excellent use of a renewable resource.
While she was there, Senator Hoffmann delighted in driving a team of draft horses pulling a sleigh, following the many paths around the forest.
