June 1- 9, Senator Nancy Larraine Hoffmann's 2003 Civil Rights Connection takes on added meaning this year because the 26 students selected to retrace the path taken by northern civil rights workers decades ago will join thousands in Jackson, Mississippi to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader Medgar Evers.
2002 CRC students toured Frogmore Plantation in Louisiana. Here they got the feel of raw cotton before it was run through the cotton gin. They learned about the economic connection between cotton and slavery.
Jackson Mayor, Harvey Johnson, Jr., speaking to the CRC students gathered on the steps of City Hall. He offered a welcome and a thank-you for coming to Jackson to help remember Civil Rights leader Medgar Evers during the 2002 Homecoming Memorial.
