The Chittenango Students for Library Resources Council made an impassioned plea to save library funding from the budget axe. Libraries face a 15% decrease in State aid. In fact, in a statement read during their meeting at Senator Hoffmann's Albany office they said, "We come here today to implore and perhaps even to beg you to support the New Century Libraries iniative from the Board of Regents. We believe all libraries, and public access to their resources is imperative to the future fiscal success of New York State."

In addition to Chittenango schools, Bishop Grimes High School, and East Syracuse-Minoa Schools were represented. Representatives of the East Syracuse, Earlville, and Morrisville Libraries also participated in the meeting.

Senator Hoffmann explained she understands the great work libraries are doing, especially in rural areas, because she earned her Masters Degree in Information Science and the District she represents includes a lot of rural countryside.

In addition to her support during budget preparations, Senator Hoffmann has been able to help libraries across the 49th District with over $300,000 in legislative grants to help buy books, add and upgrade internet access, and capital construction.
